At Riverstone, our cultural calendar is more than just a programme of events — it’s an invitation to be part of something exceptional. This year, we are delighted to announce our latest partnership with Opera Holland Park (OHP), joining our growing list of cultural collaborations.

To celebrate, we recently welcomed James Clutton, CEO and Director of OHP, to Riverstone Living for an exclusive event where guests and residents were treated to an inside look at what it takes to build a world-class opera season — and why OHP continues to set the benchmark for outdoor cultural experiences.
A Glimpse Behind the Curtain
From his early days in West End theatre to taking the reins at Opera Holland Park 25 years ago, James shared his personal journey and the evolution of the company.
James spoke passionately about OHP’s journey — from its origins in 1996 as a local borough-run company to becoming an independent, self-sustained opera house in 2015. He highlighted the sense of purpose driving the company today:
"We’ve always said, if you can’t take the community to the opera, bring the opera to the community."
From performances in care homes and hospitals during lockdown to immersive school matinees, OHP’s approach has long been grounded in accessibility and engagement — and today, their reach extends far beyond the stage.
Guests were fascinated to hear how each production comes to life — from choosing a director and conductor to selecting set designs and coordinating over 500 people across a single summer season.
“It’s not a science — it’s a chemical reaction. Every detail has to connect: the casting, the vision, the score. And then suddenly, there’s a show.”
The 2025 Opera Season
For those curious about the upcoming season, James offered a preview of what’s in store at Holland Park this summer:
These performances promise powerful storytelling, exceptional music, and memorable moments in one of London’s most atmospheric outdoor theatres.
An Invitation to Experience More
While this was an afternoon full of insights and inspiration, it also marked the beginning of something special. Our new partnership with Opera Holland Park opens the door to a season of cultural experiences that go far beyond the stage.
For Riverstone residents and guests, it’s all within easy reach — Riverstone Kensington is just an 8-minute walk from the OHP theatre. Whether it’s a leisurely lunch before the performance or a post-show conversation over dinner, our brasserie-style restaurant, Maria G’s Kensington offers the perfect setting.
And as part of this exclusive partnership, we’re delighted to extend a private discount — both for OHP performances and at Riverstone Maria G’s.
