Autumnal Inspiration for Your Home

As autumn settles in, we caught up with Christopher Dezille, founder of Honky Design and the talent behind Riverstone Fulham and Kensington’s beautiful interiors. Since its founding in 2001, Honky Design has become one of London’s top interior design firms, with projects in prestigious locations like Wycombe Square, Trafalgar Square, and even Cannes and the Bahamas.

Here, Chris shares his thoughts on autumnal design trends and how to create a cosy, welcoming home that’s uniquely yours.

Expert Insights: Chris Dezille’s Guide to a Cosy Autumn Home

As the days get shorter and the air cooler, Chris Dezille recommends thinking of your home just like your seasonal wardrobe. Just as you swap summer clothes for winter ones, you can refresh your decor to embrace the warmth and comfort of autumn.
Here are his top tips for making the transition:

  1. No need to fully redecorate – Layer plush rugs in rich jewel tones, and add velvet throws and cushions for instant warmth.
  2. Bring in textures – Cosy up with wool or chunky knit throws and blankets.
  3. Update your florals – Swap summer blooms for dried arrangements or winter flowers in seasonal colours.
  4. Set the mood with lighting – Candles and soft lamps create cozy nooks. Don’t forget seasonal scents like amber or sandalwood.
  5. Create defined spaces – Use rugs and lighting to separate functional areas from cozy relaxation spots in open-plan rooms.
  6. Combine beauty and purpose – Make sure each element has both a practical use and visual appeal.

Must-Have Colours this Autumn

This season, chocolate steals the spotlight as the trendiest colour.
Other colours gaining popularity include:

  • Burgundy
  • Forest green
  • Navy

These should be paired with earthy tones or soft neutrals like beige or eggshell.
