13 January 2022

At Jekka’s we love sowing and growing your herbs from seeds. Not only do they seem to taste better than shop bought but the act of growing and nurturing something does wonders for your health and well-being.

Check out Jekka’s top 10 herbs to grow from seed or try growing something new in 2022.

Jekka’s top 4 seed suggestions for 2022 are:

Angelica (Angelica archangelic): A hardy monocarpic (meaning that it dies after flowering) that has wonderful structural flowers that are adored by bees. It is best known as a botanical in the production of gin; providing a savoury or umami flavour.

Elecampane (Inula helnium): A hardy herbaceous perennial with large bright yellow ragged daisy-like flowers in summer. It has been used medicinally for hundreds of years for chest infections and chronic coughs.

St John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum): A semi evergreen hardy perennial that is found growing wild in UK hedgerows. Medicinally, it is probably best known for its use in mild to moderate depression.

Chinese Szechuan Pepper (Zanthoxylum simulans): A naturally untidy, deciduous, spiky bush that is predominately used for its seed casings which is where the flavour, heat and aromatics are held.
