Professor Chris Whitty recently unveiled his Chief Medical Officer’s Annual Report 2023, calling for a paradigm shift to prioritise the quality of life in later years over that of just longevity.

The report emphasises the importance of holistic, person-centred care, specifically highlighting Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment as an essential intervention in hospital settings. This approach resonates deeply with Riverstone’s commitment to providing a tailored, integrated plan for treatment, rehabilitation, support, and long-term follow-up.

Many older people fear the period of decline between good health and the final phase of life. This stage is known as ‘frailty.’ While not all people experience it, it’s life-changing for those who do, and the impact on loved ones is almost as great as those going through it.

Affirming our commitment to aligning with the progressive vision outlined in the report, Dr Zoe Wyrko, our Wellbeing Director, says

“We have designed the Riverstone Wellbeing programme to equip our residents for this stage of their lives so that they can be confident about looking forward and staying in control. We know that frailty can be prevented, paused and even reversed, and we work with our residents to achieve those outcomes.

Our expert in-house wellbeing team work only with the very best health and care specialists, from GPs to hospital consultants, physiotherapists to podiatrists, and everyone in between. We are able to provide reassurance not only to our residents but also to the people who matter to them, that the very best care is being taken.”
